farm supper

This week we harvested for the first time!  Spinach, bok choi, and kale both red and green made it through our processing system (triple washed, what up!) and out to market.

And all the seconds made it into our fridge. I had some last night, along with a slice of brown bread. A big bowl of steamed greens, a dash of salt, balsamic, and garlic. A meal fit for anyone, but especially  for a workin' girl like me.  I am reading Anna Karenina for the first time. I've only just begun, but the character Lenin says of farm folk that they eat for nourishment alone, not for frills. I'd argue respectfully  that our kale has characteristics both hearty and high-class, fit for peasantry and princes alike.
