summer crops

At the farmer's market each week, our table has been overflowing with produce. The sheer amount of food, not to mention the quality of food, that comes from our little 3.5 acres  makes me wonder what we all could produce in our own backyards! (And encourages me to obnoxiously plug local food to everyone I meet). Here's a closer look at some of our  personality-filled summer crops:

asian eggplant: milder, sweeter, and cuter than the italian (in my view)

okra: worth every itchy harvest

sugar baby watermelons:

our tomatoes: beefsteak, cherokee purple and pink ladies all in a row

ground cherries: an old-timey gardener's treat that tastes like a cherry tomato pie
